Welcome to the Quality System Unit

 

The Quality System Unit is part of the Evaluations and Standards Laboratory and provides support to all Laboratories within the Centre for Infections on quality related matters. The SOP administrator produces and maintains the controlled documents for the whole of the institute. The Quality System Unit provides similar support for the quality system in place in the Media Services and offers guidance and advice across the Health Protection Agency on accreditation issues.

Seven of the reference laboratories at CFI Colindale are CPA accredited. The Food Water and Environmental Laboratory, the Food and Environmental Proficiency Testing Unit and the Media QC laboratory are UKAS accredited and the National Collection of Type Cultures and the Media Services are both certified to BS EN ISO 9001:2000. CFI Colindale maintains a quality system which meets the requirements of all of these Standards.

The Head of Quality runs a one-day course titled 'Internal quality auditing in the clinical pathology laboratory'. This has been running successfully for the last three years and is particularly relevant now that CPA have included the requirement to perform internal quality audits in the new CPA Standard.
